The boating and sailing season is running

With marine binoculars, distant objects are very close

The corona virus has slowed down the water sports this year, but it is finally allowed again under certain conditions. Boats may be let into the water again and also the commercial rental of canoes and surfboards is possible again, at least in Germany. Finally, because short distances as well as a great variety of landscapes from the North Sea to the Baltic Sea up to numerous rivers and lakes, even whole lake landscapes, make this country the attraction for boating sportsmen.

Skippers, no matter whether they are travelling with their own boat or with a rented boat, must not forget all kinds of boat documents, such as sports boat licence, proof of ownership, EU VAT certificate, proof of insurance for boat liability insurance and, if there is a radiotelephone on board, also the necessary documents. When all the "paperwork" is stowed away on board, remember to bring a spotting scope or binoculars in addition to your nautical and personal equipment. Of course, you should always keep an eye on the water surface - the long range view with binoculars provides additional safety. At the same time, there is a lot to discover on the water as well as on the shore and coastal strips.

Marine binoculars: look out for these skills when buying

A good pair of marine binoculars should first of all be waterproof and floatable, but also robust and durable. When buying them, make sure you use a nitrogen filling. This is necessary to prevent moisture from penetrating and to keep the binoculars clear. To ensure that you have a firm grip on your glass at all times and cannot slip out of your hand, it should have a solid rubber coating. The rubber armouring also protects against light impacts.

Our recommendation: Glasses with sevenfold magnification and large lens opening

We recommend models with sevenfold magnification, such as our Bresser Nautic-7x50 or our Bresser Topas 7x50, as they provide good visibility even in heavy seas. The large lens opening of both binoculars allows enough light to enter the binoculars even in bad weather.

The compact, lightweight Nautic 7x50 has Porro prisms and an illuminated 360° compass with a line scale - an ideal navigation aid. The integrated calculating scale also allows the distance to be determined quickly. Thanks to BaK-4 glass and multi-layer coating, these waterproof marine binoculars provide a clear image even in bad weather.

The Topas 7x50 is a marine binocular in porroprism design. Due to the use of optical BaK-4 glass and a multi-coating it always offers a bright and high-contrast image. The single eyepiece adjustment makes it possible to adjust the binoculars once and then obtain a sharp image at all nautically relevant distances. The reversible eyecups allow spectacle wearers to use the wide field of view. A practical extra is a floating harness in case the good piece should ever go overboard. And now we wish you many nice trips and always a hand's breadth of water under the keel! Your Bresser Team.
